Description

Malnutrition is a chronic problem especially in slums where worries about food and shelter is a daily concern.
Sitting on one of the world's most polluted rivers, the district of Kamrangirchar used to be a dumping ground for the Bangladesh capital, Dhaka. Today, the area is a slum that's home to nearly 400,000 people.
""Below the Line"" speaks to Kamrangirchar's slum children and tells their story of survival under conditions of extreme poverty. Without sufficient nutrition, they suffer numerous health problems and have become stunted for life. So poor, pregnant mothers don’t even know that being underweight during pregnancy is dangerous for the development of their fetus. Aid agencies have come in to help Dhaka's poorest of the poor, but more needs to be done to break the vicious cycle of poverty.
