Nay Aung in Myanmar

12 year-old Nay Aung lives by Lake Inle in Myanmar (Burma). He’s an Inta: they’re a people known locally as “the sons of the water”. It’s easy to see why - everything here revolves around the water. Nay Aung’s house is built on stilts and sits on the lake. Even the pigsty sits floating above the water. The family uses a boat to get around and Nay Aung uses his feet to move the paddle. The crops are planted on floating islands built specially for them. His family even has a small plot of land for growing rice. Nay Aung helps his parents at planting time and also takes care of the water buffalo. They use them to help with the most difficult chores, like plowing and heavy lifting.
